Why Choose Us?

We’ll show you Alaska as only a long time owner operator can.

A word from your Captain,

Safety is paramount and we strive to provide a professional service but what really makes a cruise on Discovery special is the intangible … the excitement, the camaraderie, the shared wonder at this incredible natural world. Our fun loving nature and passion for what we do will make you feel like you are traveling with friends who want to show you the best that Alaska has to offer.

Alaska cruises are 7 nights (8 days)

Some of our competitors have shortened their trips to 6 nights while some ‘7 night’ cruises include the first night in a hotel.

On shorter cruises it’s Alaska’s tranquil solitude and time spent with wildlife that you sacrifice – the time to kayak or walk on a secluded beach, the extra time we have to spend with Humpback Whales or the chance to stop at a natural hot spring.

No set schedule

Discovery’s cruise itineraries are kept purposely flexible to allow for the unExpected wildlife encounters that are the highlight of these trips.

We try to accommodate individual guest’s desires where possible. We can stop to photograph Bald Eagles on an iceberg or launch a kayak before breakfast. We may spend a few hours with Humpback Whales or the whole afternoon.

Family owned and operated since 1981

As one of the very first to conduct small ship eco-cruises in Alaska and Canada we know this area better than any other tour operator.

As well as the popular sights we’ll show you the hidden gems, off the beaten track, that few people experience.

A spacious and comfortable charter yacht

Full of charm and character Discovery is elegant without being pretentious and has all of the small touches that make a house a home.

Restored as an Alaska charter yacht she is perfectly suited to our adventure style of small ship cruising.

Better wildlife viewing on a small boat cruise

We know where to look for a variety of wildlife at different times of the season and how best to approach the animals we observe.

In a small group we have better wildlife encounters than the bigger 60-80 passenger vessels both on shore and from the boat.

We don’t cruise at night!

Late afternoon we’ll anchor in a sheltered bay, selected for its beauty and wildlife viewing potential, or tie up at the dock of a small Alaskan community.

Overnight power is switched from the generator to a battery powered inverter system so that we all get a good nights sleep.

Discovery holds permits that many of our competitors don’t have

  • Sports Fishing Guides License so that our guests can fish for wild Alaska Salmon, Halibut, Dungeness crab and shrimp.
  • Permits for both of Southeast Alaska’s limited entry bear viewing observatories Pack Creek and Anan Creek.
  • Shore access in pristine wilderness areas.

Our Chef and Crew will spoil you

We are lucky to have an awesome crew who genuinely care that your time aboard Discovery is all that it can be.

Our creative Chef prepares delicious meals from local ingredients including fresh seafood caught during the cruise.
(Full breakfast, Lunch, Hors d’ oeurves, and 3 course evening meal)

We care deeply about the impact we have as tour operators on the fragile Eco system. We observe wildlife without interference and have a strict “leave no trace policy”.
